St. Jude Students Recognized for Math Skills

  • November 17, 2011
  • School: St. Jude School
  • Class/grade: 4th
  • Award: Noetic Math Contest

On October 13, 2011, nineteen fourth grade students from St. Jude School led by their teacher, Mrs. Jennifer Wrenn, competed in the Noetic Math Contest.

Noetic Math Contest is an elementary math contest held twice a year. More than 6,000 young students representing over 300 teams across the country participated in the contest.  The purpose of participating in the contest is to stimulate students’ interest in math and to inspire them to excel in math.

Henry Minnick was the winner of the St. Jude School team and he and the following students were recognized for their performance with a “National Honorable Mention”: Colin Belanger, Lauren Gillespie, Emily McGovern, Jack Psaras, Gavin Scali, Julia Tristine, and Alexandra Wrenn.  The contest results show these students can rise to the occasion and can meet the challenge. It also demonstrates the students’ great math skills and talents.

St. Jude School uses the results of the contest as one means to guide instruction and enrichment for the remainder of the year.  St. Jude School strives to make the curriculum challenging for all of its students.  Enhanced learning such as this serves as a preparation for the placement of students in grades 5 through 8 when advanced math classes are offered.
