Monroe Republicans Nominate Stripay for Registrar

Judith Stripay is finishing the term of retired registrar Jeanette Benson. Now her party has nominated her to run for a full term of her own.

Judith Stripay had been the Republican deputy registrar of voters when her party asked her to finish the term of longtime Registrar of Voters Jeanette Benson, who retired in January. Since then, Stripay and Democratic Registrar of Voters Susan Koneff oversaw redistricting together. Now with the Presidential election just around the corner, town Republicans have nominated Stripay to run for a full term.

Susan Ownes, the Republican deputy registrar of voters, gave the nominating speech for Stripay at Tuesday night's Republican Convention at Monroe Town Hall.

"Judy brings her many years of experience in town politics to this position, having been past Republican Town Committee Chairman, Town Council Chairman and an integral part of the first successful Republican First Selectman Campaign in 14 years," Ownes said. "Along with all her knowledge, she also brings a wonderful ability to work with her Democratic counterpart. Judy has used that ability to help create an environment where we can work together and all do our best for the Town of Monroe.

Stripay said, "I'm very grateful for the support of the Town Committee for having endorsed me as our registrar of voters. I look forward to a challenging year with the Presidential election."

Republican Town Committee Chairman Jeff Guttman said, "Judy Stripay has been an outstanding replacement for the registrar of voters. We couldn't ask for a better registrar of voters to represent all of us: The people in Monroe. She will do an outstanding job every minute of every day."
