Monroe's Polls Ready to Roll on Election Day

Now that power has been restored to all town schools, the polls can open on Tuesday.

Voting machines are checked and secure, absentee ballots crossed off and now the town's polling places have electricity following outages from Hurricane Sandy.

"We're ready to go. We've been ready to go," said Democratic Registrar of Voters Susan Koneff. "The only question we had was whether the polls were going to be up and running — and they are."

Republican Registrar Judith Stripay said, "The Registrars of Voters and the poll workers are absolutely ready and anxious to be there for the public to vote in a safe environment."

"At 2 o'clock on Monday we'll start setting up the tables and securing the voting machines for the opening of the polls at 6 a.m.," Stripay added.

On Tuesday, the polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Koneff said voters will vote in their usual polling place, but added, "We were redistricted at the beginning of the year. If they hadn't voted in a while, they can call the office to find out where they will vote."

When the 22nd State Senatorial District was made smaller, Koneff said it moved a lot of voters out of Stepney Elementary School, and many who used to vote at Fawn Hollow Elementary School to Masuk High School. In some cases, voters in the same district will vote at a different polling place.

The number for the Registrars Office is (203) 452-2820, but Koneff said people may also visit the Secretary of the State's website and look up their polling place. Here's the link for the search engine: http://www.dir.ct.gov/sots/LookUp.aspx
