Police Reports: Rummaging for Doughnuts
Six bags of garbage illegally dumped in front of a residential property in Monroe led to a Shelton Dunkin Donuts.
Illegal Dumping
A Cottage Street resident reported Saturday that six garbage bags had been left near his mailbox and a police investigation determined it was from the Shelton Dunkin Donuts at 198 Leavenworth Road (Route 110). Surveillance camera footage caught the suspect taking the trash, according to police.
Dunkin Donuts employees told officers the 16-year-old Shelton male often comes by and asks for the leftover doughnuts and, after they refuse his request, they place the garbage outside the door and see him picking it up, police said.
Police said officers tracked down the teen, who admitted to taking the garbage bags and dropping them off in Monroe. He gave them no reason why he did this and was issued a verbal warning for illegal dumping, because the Cottage Street resident only wanted the bags to be picked up by the suspect.
The victim did not see the garbage bags when he left for work at 8:30 on Friday night, but a family member first saw the trash after arriving home at 11 p.m., police said. The incident was reported at 9:50 Saturday morning.
Broken Windows
Three windows on the south face of the Anodic Incorporated building, 1480 Monroe Turnpike, were broken, according to a vandalism complaint filed on Sunday morning. Officers could not find any projectiles that created the $800 worth of damage, police said.
