Police Reports: Two Postal Workers Arrested for Assault Charge

An employee tangled with the postmaster when he wanted to leave work early.

Monroe, CT -- Two U.S. Postal workers were arrested Wednesday following a physical altercation outside a Monroe post office.

Officers responding to two complaints of a fight interviewed Postmaster James Rooney, 55, and employee John Beddington, 43.

According to the report, at around 12:07 p.m., Beddington told police he was leaving early because he didn't feel well, when he was confronted outside by Rooney. Rooney allegedly started yelling at Beddington and grabbed him around the neck, police said.

Beddington told officers that he did not strike Rooney, but Rooney claims that he was just talking to Beddington when Beddington sucker punched him on the right cheek, according to the report.

Police said that Beddington's neck was red, but had no scratches and that there were no visible abrasions on Rooney's face. Based on the sworn statements, both men were arrested.
