Sunday Liquor Sales Bill Signed Into Law [VIDEO]

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy ends "Blue Laws" in ceremony at Enfield Town Hall.

Connecticut's archaic "Blue Laws" prohibiting liquor stores from opening on Sundays ended Thursday, with the signing of legislation that allows those retailers the opportunity to open seven days a week if they so choose. Gov. Dannel P. Malloy signed the bill into law in the Town Council Chambers at Enfield Town Hall. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, state Sen. John Kissel, Rep. Kathy Tallarita and Rep. David Kiner were among the legislators present for the ceremony. The bill allows liquor permittees to sell alcohol from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, as well as on Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, and on Mondays following a Christmas or New Year's Day holiday that falls on a Sunday.  The governor said he chose to stage the signing …

McDonald's Plans for New Town Restaurant Still Mired in Court

A lawsuit by neighbors' was dismissed, but their lawyer is seeking a review of that decision in appellate court.

Superior Court Judge Dale Ratcliff recently dismissed an appeal of the Planning & Zoning Commission's approval of a McDonald's at 579 Main Street, but one shouldn't expect to see cars filling the parking lot and lining up at the drive-thru window of a new fast food restaurant any time soon. Attorney Kevin Gumpper filed a petition for a certification to appeal, which will be reviewed and decided upon by the appellate court — a process that Monroe Town Attorney Jack Fracassini said may take over a month. On April 2, Judge Ratcliff had dismissed Gumpper's appeal of the P&Z's approval of Real Time Investments LLC's two applications needed for construction of a McDonald's, claiming there was a lack of notice about the hearing and an inaccurate …

They also changed their return policy and will not accept any items for return or exchange without a receipt. Not good business practices especially in this economy. I personally did not have an exchange to make, however and young tween was trying to exchange a birthday gift(video game) he received but did not have a receipt for. they would not let him even exchange it. Connecticut Sues Apple, Publishers for eBook Price Fixing

Some experts say the case against Apple backed by 16 states isn’t strong enough.

Apple and several book publishers are allegedly working together to drive up the price of eBooks resulting in $100 million in overcharges, according to a complaint lodged by 16 states, including Connecticut. A two-year investigation by the suing states found that Macmillan, Penguin and Simon & Schuster allegedly conspired with other publishers and Apple to artificially raise prices.   An article on CNET quoted various antitrust experts about thoughts on the case. One said the government “"has a far better case against the publishers than Apple.” Another believes the case against the publishers is also weak.  When Apple began to enter the eBook market, the states say “publishers and Apple agreed to adopt an agency distribution model as a …

The Swiss Ambassador to Monroe

Consulate General of Switzerland François Barras visited Victorinox Swiss Army's North American headquarters in Monroe Wednesday

Lee Hossler and his wife Dottie's friends Richard and Carol Steiner invited them to a party for Consulate General of Switzerland François Barras in Jamaica, Vermont, last year. Lee took advantage of the opportunity to meet the ambassador. "I told him that Swiss Army was in Monroe and he said, 'Where's Monroe?'" Hossler recalled. "I said, 'I would love to invite you to Monroe.'" Hossler, who is chairman of the Monroe Economic Development Commission, actually received an email from the foreign dignitary telling him he would be in town to visit Victorinox Swiss Army's North American headquarters at 7 Victoria Drive in Monroe this week.
