Change.
It's a buzzword that usually is tossed about. Change is good. Change is inevitable. Nothing remains without change. Change means motion, movement. It means that the wheels are turning and that we are moving somewhere.
Here is a catalog of the changes we've seen in just the last four years in Monroe:

That's a whole lot of changes in a short period of time. And while I don't disagree that some of the changes going on in our system are inevitable or even necessary, it seems like an awful lot of upheaval where we would like to maintain some stability and structure.
As our school system embarks on the closure of another school year and dedicates itself to finding a new captain to steer our ship, I think we all need to think carefully about the direction that we are headed in. What do we as a community want our school system to look like, to strive toward, to be? Will we be ever trying to plug the holes or will we be charting a course for a new horizon? One hopes that the opportunity brought about by the upcoming change in leadership will allow us to move forward on calmer, more stable seas.
