Yes, I'm Running and No, You Don't See My Signs

If you know me, you know that at some point you’ll likely get recruited into one of the projects I’m working on.

If it is the spring, that means I’ll be talking to you about the Sprint for Monroe, the race I became involved in two years ago and helped plan last year.

If it is the summer, it will be the Monroe Farmers’ Market that I’ll be talking to you about, telling you about all the great reasons why you should stop by or maybe become involved.

If it is the fall, then you’ll be hearing about Minds In Motion (this year’s is happening on 10/26…if you are a parent of a K-8 child, you’ll want to visit ctgifted.org to register for this amazing, all day event for you and your kids at Masuk HS! Also, we need volunteers....anyone?).

And all year long, if you’re connected to me in any way, you’ll likely hear about what is going on with our schools via my involvement in Parents’ Council and Monroe’s Organized Voters for Education (by the way, hope to see people out at the town vote regarding the school roofs at Town Hall on 10/15 @ 7pm).

Why am I involved in so many activities in town that take up so much of my time?  It’s a question I often ask myself.  And if you look carefully at where I spend my volunteer hours, it always comes back to one thing:  education.  Education is my passion and I've worked all my life in some capacity towards improving it for either my students, my own children or my community.  And that is why I have decided to run for the Monroe Board of Education.

As political signs crop up around town, people have started asking me why I don't have any out there.  It's a good question, and one I've debated with many people over the last few weeks and months.

I know that signs are the hallmark of a political campaign, and certainly I'm not averse to them (ahem, budget season). Instead, I am hoping that all of my hard work towards benefiting education in Monroe shows my commitment to our kids and education here in Monroe.

I can't put all of what I do on a sign. No offense to my fellow candidates who have signs out about town, truly.  I just am going to buck the trend and hope that what I've done speaks loud enough to demonstrate my commitment to the Town of Monroe, without the roadside advertising.
