MONROE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL - SCHOOL OF DISTINCTION

December, 2013

The Connecticut State Department of Education has named Monroe Elementary School as a School of Distinction for highest overall performance for the 2012-13 school year.  This is the second year the State has recognized schools for this award; Monroe Elementary having been named for both of these years.  To put this in perspective, there are 663 public elementary schools in Connecticut.  Monroe Elementary is only one of ten School’s of Distinction for highest overall achievement for the past two years.  Therefore, this school ranks in the top 2% of all elementary schools in the State of Connecticut.

This recognition is determined by the Grade 3, 4, and 5 students’ performance on the Connecticut Mastery Test (C.M.T.).  Although the C.M.T. is just one measure of students’ success, it is one that indicates how the children are learning the curriculum being taught.  From the time the children enter Kindergarten, important curriculum standards are being taught for students to be successful, not just on the C.M.T., but as they progress in their future educational and career endeavors.  The C.M.T. measures what we have been teaching.

The staff at Monroe Elementary School remains committed to the belief that at the heart of their success is the emphasis placed on the relationships they build within this community.  They believe that no significant learning occurs without first developing a significant relationship.  Children learn best in an environment where they feel safe and secure.  They strive to nurture each child’s emotional and social growth along with their academic growth, helping them to become strong and healthy individuals as they move on to the middle school and beyond.

They are very proud of their children’s success and delighted they are again a “School of Distinction.”  The entire Monroe Elementary community of staff, parents and children, together, celebrate their success.
