Monroe’s Outstanding Citizens:

Diane Mellen, center, recognized as Monroe’s Outstanding Citizen for 2014 Monday night at Town Hall, is flanked by previous recipients of the award, Karen Burnaska, left, and Enid Lipeles. The presentation was made by First Selectman Steve Vavrek at the opening of the Town Council meeting. A panel representing a cross section of the community in Monroe selected Mellen from among 14 candidates nominated for elevating the quality of life in Monroe.
