Flags Fly Along Cutlers Farm Road For Memorial Day

A long row of flags give drivers a view of the Stars 'n Stripes as they travel along Cutlers Farm Road. A crew from the Monroe Parks & Recreation Department put the flags up on telephone poles in recognition of Memorial Day weekend.

"We took the initiative and placed the flags up once we got permission from the utilities," Parks & Rec. Dir. Frank Cooper said Thursday. "They were put in place Monday of this week. Traditionally the staff has been putting small flags in the stone walls, but I thought that this approach might make a much better statement for the holidays."

"Our plan is to fly the flags on certain U.S. holidays," he said. "At this time we plan on placing them on Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Veterans Day. We have been asked to leave them in place through the Sprint for Monroe Road Race which is June 2."
