Monroe Helping Neighbors Fundraiser on Jan. 4

A big event at The Waterview will support families of the Sandy Hook School tragedy.

Guests dining at The Waterview, 215 Roosevelt Drive in Monroe, on Jan. 4 can take in scenic views of Lake Zoar, while listening to live music and bidding for prizes in an auction. All proceeds will benefit the families of the Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy.

It costs $50 a head for the event, which will be from 7 p.m. to midnight. The Waterview is donating its venue and dinner with salad, tea and dessert for 400 people. Here's the link to buy tickets.

"We want to get donations and raise as much money as possible," said Davinder Heslin of Monroe, one of the organizers. "People are internationally donating."

"Every single dime of this, people are donating," said Heslin.

She said the band and auctioneer are performing for free and Minute Man Press of Monroe is donating print signs, fliers and more.

"I'm doing social media and the website," Heslin said, "and some people are doing graphic design."

Heslin encourages people to "like" and share the Monroe Helping Neighbors Facebook page with everyone they know to make the dinner a success.

"Lets make it a great event to honor our lost angels and their families," Heslin said.
