Sprint for Monroe to Get Underway Sunday

The 19th annual event is scheduled to be held at Wolfe Park

Runners and walkers will be lacing up their sneakers for the 19th annual Sprint for Monroe to be held at Wolfe Park, 285 Cutlers Farm Road, Sunday morning.

The event begins at 9 a.m., but registration starts at 7:30. Sprint for Monroe is a 5 kilometer (3.1 mile) run, walk and children's fun run presented by the Monroe Police Department.

Registration is at 7:30 a.m., with a kids' fun run at 8:15 a.m. Race registration ends at 8:45 a.m. and the 5 kilometer race/walk starts at 9 a.m.

There will be an awards ceremony and raffle after the main event.

It costs $5 to enter the children's fun run. It costs $20 on race day. For registration forms and a course map, follow this link.

There is a $12 team registration with a 10 runner minimum.

Categories for the race are Youth (12 and under); Junior (age 13-15); Teen (16-19); Open (20-29); Submaster(30-39); Master(40-49); Grandmaster (50-59); Senior (60-69) and Veteran (70-plus).

Trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category (male and female) and to the Top Monroe finisher (male and female). Cash Prizes are 1st $100, 2nd $50 and 3rd $25. First place for Master is $50 (Male & Female).

There will be a random drawing for all registrants of local merchant gifts. Special Prizes Include a Mountain Bike from Cycle Fitness, a mid-size watch from Swiss Army Brands, a Polar Heart Rate Monitor and a Vacation Center Getaway.

Pets and baby joggers not permitted on race course. Pets are not allowed in park.
