'Thank You for Your Service, Your Sacrifice'

MONROE — A gathering for the annual 11 at 11 on 11 Veterans Day Ceremony was held on the historic Stepney Green Monday morning. Save Our Stepney set up flags and Tony Unger, commander of Easton's American Legion Charles L. Ruman Post, organized the event.

Victor Yanosy, commander of the Sippin-Winspur Post 176 in Monroe, led the wreath ceremony, which members of the Canadian Air Force participated in.

Donna O'Hara sang the "National Anthem" and The Rev. Adan Rodriguez of Holy Rosary Chapel gave the opening and closing prayers.

The following is a collection of quotes from the ceremony:

I want to thank you veterans for not taking a day off when we needed you most. — First Selectman Steve Vavrek

Let's try to be kinder, gentler, do unto others as we would have them do unto us and take care of our soldiers when they come home. — State Rep. DebraLee Hovey

Thank you for your service, your sacrifice and everything you've done to keep this country great. — Dan Debicella

Thank you to all of our veterans and their families. The veterans sacrifice a lot and their families sacrifice a lot. — Tony Unger, American Legion Charles L. Ruman Post Commander
