The Mines & Mills Tour: Looking into Monroe's Past

Developer John Kimball and his wife Jill showed guests the grounds and castle at Marian Heights during a stop at Saturday's Mines and Mills Tour of Old Monroe, organized by the Monroe Historical Society under president Karen Cardi and Nancy Zorena.

The tour sold out with 109 registered travelers, filling two buses rented from All-Star Transportation and a smaller third bus operated by the Monroe Senior Center.

The foundation of the Botsford Sawmill off Hammerton Road, dating back the 1800's, and a site identified as the location of a clubhouse for employees of a copper smelter that functioned in the 1890's rounded out the tour with commentary by Kevin Daly.
