The Week Ahead in Monroe

Summer camps, history lectures, art and free ice cream are all on the schedule this week in Monroe.

Sign your kids up for summer camp: There is still space in some of the week-long Monroe Dance Academy classes, including a Disney Princess camp, a Broadway week camp and a dance fever camp. Visit its website for more information.

Learn the history of your property: Kevin Daly, a Monroe native, will hold a lecture about using residential archaeology and Internet tools to learn about Monroe's changes over the years Monday. The lecture will be free at 6:30 p.m. at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library.

Annual Chamber of Commerce dinner: The dinner will be held Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at Roberto's Restaurant and costs $30 per person. There will be a meeting, a scholarship presentation and an election of officers and directors. Make a reservation at 203-268-6518.

Work on a furniture project with others
: There will be drop-in days Wednesday and Thursday at the Collaborative Women's Center where you can bring an old piece of furniture and work on painting or refinishing it while gathering the insights of others. To register, visit this website.

See local art for free: The Sixth Annual Members Exhibit at City Lights Gallery in Bridgeport will be held Thursday from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Some of the artists will be at the event for you to talk to as well. For more information, visit the City Lights Gallery website.

Free ice cream samples: Frosty Bear Ice Cream Shoppe is opening at 695 Main St. Saturday and the Monroe Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a grand opening event at 1 p.m. There will be free locally made ice cream samples from the wide variety of 30 flavors. For reservations, call 203-268-6518.
