Monroe Native is Behind 9/11 Memorial

Artist David Merrill painted a memorable flag memorial in the aftermath of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Distraught from the events of Sept. 11, 2001 and all of the friends he had lost in the terrorist attacks, Newtown resident Howard Lasher turned to Monroe native David Merrill for help in creating a flag memorial. After months of work, Merrill, who also is known for his mural painting at the Edith Wheeler Memorial Library, created what  is now considered a local landmark visible from Dodgingtown Road.

Listen to Lasher and Merrill recall how this project came about.
