Lightning Strike Knocks Out Board of Ed's Phones, Internet

A lightning strike near Monroe Elementary School caused the Board of Education's Central Office to lose its phone and Internet service at 10:15 Thursday morning.

Supt. of Schools James Agostine said a notification would be sent out by Messenger informing the community of the situation, adding a second alert will go out when the phones and Internet are back up.

Though the lightning did not hit the building, Agostine said the surge caused some damage.

"We don't know how extensive the damage is yet," he said.
