Monroe Pack & Ship has ensured deliveries of its customers' packages via FedEx, UPS and U.S. mail for more than two decades from its storefront at Gaslight Square. Now Joe Palmisano, who owned it for the past 10, moved his business into the Reda Center down the street at 483 Monroe Turnpike.

An AT&T representative told Palmisano the phone company was setting up phone lines Thursday afternoon, as Palmisano unpacked items from a box.

Keith Forster of Trumbull asked him if he could send out a package that day, despite preparing Monroe Pack & Ship's new space for its opening on Friday morning.

"He's been handling my business exclusively for the past 10 years," Forster said of Palmisano. Forster owns Vintage Family Tree Video.

Forster had to go with another service on Thursday. "I hate to do that," he said. "But this is time sensitive. Don't worry. I'll have other packages for you."

Palmisano said the space at the Reda Center is newer, built in 2000, and the configuration works better for his business.

"It's gonna look nice, isn't it?" Palmisano said to Forster. "Everybody likes it. I'll be up and running tomorrow."

Monroe Pack & Ship is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday. It's closed on Sunday.

That means everyone who uses 500B Monroe Turnpike as their mailing address has to change it. That's no small chore for small businesses who have to change their stationary, business cards, etc. I don't begrudge Joe his need for new space, I'm just sayin'...

It was 1:42 pm on Saturday Dec. 21, and I have hundreds of dollars of boxes to be shipped to my family members. I googled FedEx shipping office and his company name came up first. It said store hours for Sat. was 9:00-3:00 pm, and I was afraid I wouldn't make it in time, so I called to see if he would be having extended hours, like most businesses for the holiday. He picked up and I started to ask, he cut me off and yelled We are Closed. I said the website states your open until 3:00. He was so pissed and said "I haven't been open until 3 in years". He continued as though my fault and said whatever paper your reading is old. I said sir I googled you on the internet, and everyone would consider this information correct and up to date. He gives me a huge sigh, so I said it says during the week you are open, and he starts yelling at me again. I said Sir, I am a small business owner and just wanted you to know that the information posted for your store is incorrect and you may want someone to look into it and before I finished he said "Thanks for helping me run MY business" and hung up on me. I will not allow anyone to talk to me that way or treat me that way. I wasn't complaining, I didn't say anything wrong and thought he may want to know this. I was embarrassed and so taken back. I will go towns away rather than down the road to him going forward. He treated me like he was an animal. If your store is officially closed and you are angry or having a bad day, DONT ANSWER THE PHONE. And if you choose to answer don't speak or treat anyone like that. I agree with the above, chances are good he didn't let anyone know he was moving, so they won't even know to change the address, the phone numbers and the HOURS OF OPERATIONS. I'm curious how many people showed up there after 2:00 loaded with boxes and cursing that he was closed. I'm sure he could care less. two decades may be to long for a person like him to be in a customer based business.
