Newtown to Join Monroe for Chamber Golf Outing

The 5th annual golf tournament and Business After Hours is scheduled for Oct. 3.

Merchants and professionals can promote their businesses and network on the greens of Whitney Farms Golf Course, 175 Shelton Road in Monroe, on Wednesday, Oct. 3, during the Newtown and Monroe chamber of commerces' 5th Annual Golf Outing, an event sponsored by Union Savings Bank.

Tim Haas, president the Newtown Chamber of Commerce, said, "The key initiative that we have in the Newtown chamber is when the chamber shows up, the members show up. By that, I mean we have a table out at every event where our members can put their brochures, business cards and other marketing materials. This event is going to be a great opportunity to showcase your business to some extent, and also to do some networking."

Raymond Giovanni, president of the Monroe Chamber of Commerce, said his town's organization strives to work with chambers in surrounding towns.

"We enjoy working together on different projects," he said. "The Monroe chamber also does combined events with our neighbors in Trumbull."

Haas said both chambers will split the proceeds, which will go into each organization's operating budgets. Both chambers use the funds to promote local businesses and community causes.

"This golf tournament is important to the chamber's mission," said Giovanni. "Because of our loyal supporters, participants and sponsors, this project allows us to continue to support the community. Proceeds from this initiative will allow us to continue to support social programs such as Project Warmth, the Food Pantry and scholarships to the students of Masuk High School.

"This event is symbolic of the business community supporting the town as the townspeople support the business. I believe people understand that this is the net effect of the annual golf tournament and that is why they come back each year. We could not be more proud of the efforts and results that we accomplish each year."
