Tavern to Open Under New Management Thursday

An employee told Patch the restaurant will be open today at 3 p.m.

Tavern has been closed for a week, but the restaurant will reopen under new management on Thursday afternoon. An employee told Patch the business will now be operated by Robert Ryder and that food and drinks will be served once again at 3 p.m.

It's wierd, that location has seen many names come and go over the years, yet a place like The Smithy has stood the test of time.

Did the former owners just want to sell, or did something happen that made them jump ship? I never saw any indication that they were struggling...

Yes. Robert Ryder owns The Cookhouse as well. Great barbecue.

Rob also owns The Inn at Newtown, and he has a lot of changes planned by way of service improvement and new menu options. As far as the reason the formers owners sold; they showed very strong numbers in the first full year, but decided to concentrate more on their lower Fairfield County operations.
