What Should Go Here?

It was a seafood place and a hot dog joint ... what's next?

This white building at the corner of Easton and Hattertown roads has been vacant for years. It once housed Swanson's Fish Market and one more recent tenant, Super Duper Weenie. The green out building had been leased by Mason's Farm Market.

Obviously, factors such as local zoning laws will have a say in what goes on the property next, but let's suspend reality for a while. What would you like to see there? Share your ideas in the Comments.

This can be fun and who knows, maybe one idea will inspire the owner.

Wendy's, Taco Bell,Kfc, or something other than Mcdonalds to give them some competition.

Double Yum!! I think that property is way to small for that though. How about a American Steakhouse??
JoAnn Toth September 20, 2012 at 12:07 AM

bob heid September 20, 2012 at 01:45 AM
My son says a Taco Bell, but maybe a KFC would be a big hit.

Shoe store!
Lorraine September 20, 2012 at 04:45 PM
Yes! I thought that a Trader Joe's would go where FoodWorks is now - that would have been a perfect location!
Lorraine September 20, 2012 at 04:48 PM
I thought there was also a business for a short time that provided prepared foods to-go.

How About Sonic
Paul G. Littlefield September 20, 2012 at 07:55 PM
Vazzies was there, before Super Weiny. I stopped in frequently for a hot meal and there was steady traffic in for pick ups.

What's going in across the street from this place at the former Blockbuster's?
Jenna September 21, 2012 at 12:15 PM
They made rite aid bigger
bob heid September 21, 2012 at 12:49 PM
How about a drive-in theater? LOL.
Christine E. September 21, 2012 at 02:18 PM
Right Aid expanded. I was told by the staff that they are adding in more of a grocery section to the store (no produce), but a section of coolers for every day grocery items. Not a bad idea for this side of town.

There was a house behind this property that was torn down. The house and this commercial property belong to the same owner. Not sure if the house could be rezoned to commercial, that would add some nice property to build something decent.
blackie September 22, 2012 at 07:26 PM
Yes a shoe store, now you're talking!
donna miller September 23, 2012 at 01:16 AM
I AGREE BOTH PROPERTIES WOULD BE NEEDED TO HAVE A DECENT PLACE ( OF ANY KIND) A PLACE TO PARK AND MOVE AROUND BETWEEN RT.59 AND HATTERTOWN RD....THAT SPOT HAS ALWAYS BEEN A HASSLE TO GET IN AND OUT OF..... STEAK-HOUSE WOULD BE NICE

How did Pepper Street become Green Street at the new light on Rte 25 all of a sudden? How does this happen without ever hearing about it? I did not hear about this change, maybe I missed it.
donna miller September 24, 2012 at 12:11 PM
MICHAEL....That has always been Green St
Steve Kirsch September 24, 2012 at 02:26 PM
Michael, the intersection at Rt 25, next to Country Pizza, has always been Green St, even though most of us called it Pepper St. The actual Pepper St is the section of road that runs in front of the cemetery. It is my understanding that this small section will become one-way heading out to Rt 25 (from the Pepper / Green St intersection).

Typical response. No vision. No imagination.

Does anyone know when the Circle Dot Drive-In closed? That's another ex-restaurant sitting around gathering dust.
Chick-fil-a Adovcate September 26, 2012 at 04:10 PM
I think a Chick-fil-a should go there. The closest one is in NJ. Not only would it bring a much-needed chicken restaurant to town, but it would also attract many people to the area, increasing their awareness of Monroe and the local surrounding businesses. The only concern would be the increase of traffic in an area that is already heavily congested.
Lauren September 26, 2012 at 06:22 PM
organic farm stand
Producer Tom September 26, 2012 at 07:07 PM
At one point before it became a major intersection it would have been nice to have something nostalgic - country but now the area has really built up....the town is still known to be an issue for compliance and rules...so how about a comic/book store that brings in some interesting events for kids...MONROE needs to do more for families.

Circle dot drive in closed about 12 years ago. It's on a prime piece of main street property, easy in easy out, with 200 feet of main street frontage--its on the market if you are interested!

What a perfect place for a country bakery! Coffee, pastry, bread, rolls and such. Oh yum!
