The Beauty is in the Details

Home and Family

There are two women very special to me that are in the process of creating beautiful spaces for their families.  One is my daughter, Vanessa and the other is my sister in law, Josie. They share the love of home and family and it shows in their homes.  It shows in their detail.

Vanessa and her husband, Craig live just outside of Philadelphia on a storybook tree lined street. Her house is a new but designed to fit in nicely with the variety of older stone and tudor style homes in the neighborhood.  She is working with a soft palate of cream, dove grey and a pop of color here and there. I love the interest she’s created with texture.  White wood plantation shutters, nubby fabric on the pair of chairs in the family room and a luxurious white throw on the sofa.  But my favorite use of texture brings the outdoors in…it’s a wonderful table runner crafted from river rocks.  It was a great find at a unique little shop in town and it’s become the centerpiece of her kitchen.

When my brother, Joe, married Josie she moved into the home he shares with his eighteen year old twin sons. The house was clean, tasteful and just a bit masculine. It’s now a story unfolding each time I visit.  Josie has a way of warming a room.  She has added well chosen pretty furniture pieces just where they were needed. Her special  Italian painted pottery is displayed for all to enjoy.  Sumptuous bedding has been added in each bedroom.  And then there’s the master bath. It had all the elements one would need but very sedate.  Not anymore! Take a look at the before and after photos.
