Why are you running?

I am running to represent and serve the citizens of Monroe; to continually improve our education system and identify and implement innovative, cost-effective solutions, and to build upon the success of the last 4 years.

What are the three biggest issues facing Monroe?

I’m a lifelong resident of Monroe; I believe the issues facing Monroe have been relatively consistent over the years.  They are, Education, Economic Development, and the Tax burden on Residential property and Seniors.

What can the Board of Education do to keep the town in the right direction?

The Board of Education can continue to advance our Education system through the improvement of curriculum, technology, and facilities, and the empowerment of our educators.

What skills and attributes make you a good fit for Board of Education?

I’m an objective decision-maker. Over the past 4 years I’ve analyzed facts and data to help drive solutions that have advanced education in our district, while identifying opportunities and initiatives that have reduced cost wherever possible.

What do you think of the new Common Core Standards school districts are adopting?

I believe our approach to education should allow for competing ideas to flourish, so the most successful can be identified and implemented. Common core standards and testing were never piloted, anywhere in the country before they were implemented and incentivized at the Federal level. Time will tell their rate of success.

That said, Monroe has done an excellent job at aligning our curriculum to common core and preparing our teachers and students; we are ahead of the curve.
