'We'll Be Working Together Soon'

Republican Town Committee Chairman Jeff Guttman and Sue Koneff, the Democratic Registrar of Voters, stood side-by-side in the Council Chambers of Monroe Town Hall to call up newly elected candidates to be sworn in on Monday night. It was a symbol of bipartisanship following a hotly contested municipal election among the town's two major parties.

"I want to thank everyone of you for all you do to make Monroe the fantastic place to live in that it is," Guttman said to the members of the town's boards and commissions.

Probate Judge T.R. Rowe then swore in all officials in attendance, ending with First Selectman Steve Vavrek, who was elected to his third consecutive term with 59.1 percent of the vote.

Vavrek talked about Republicans and Democrats working together.

"In this town we're all residents of Monroe and that's where we're gonna keep it," he said. "I want to thank the new members of our society here, 'The Elected Officials Club,' and I'm sure you're gonna work as hard as we all can to get the right things out, which we have done. I think it's been a great past four years. I think it's gonna be a phenomenal two years."
