STEPNEY TREE LIGHTING

SAVE OUR STEPNEY TASKFORCE READIES THE GREEN FOR THE 11TH ANNUAL HOLIDAY TREELIGHTING.

Having survived two years of continuing weather challenges and the state cutting down the large Christmas tree,  Saturday marked the collaboration of the SOS Taskforce  and the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department  in tidying up the green and replacing all the lighting on the tree.  Underwritten in part by a generous donation from Como and Nicholson Insurance,  all the storm damaged bulbs were replaced with new LED lights.  The popular annual event will take place Saturday December 1st at 7 p.m. on the historic green located at the junction of Route 25 & 59.  The green will be ringed with 250 luminaries.    The event will feature the arrival of Frosty the Snowman escorted into town by members of the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department to light the tree.  Guests will find Boy Scout Troop 62 preparing hot doughnuts and cider.  The popular local group “Just Voices” will provide the pre-lighting musical entertainment. After the lighting, the Stepney Baptist Church will host a candlelight carol sing followed by refreshments.   Those wishing to contribute to the taskforces annual  “Buy A Bulb”   can mail their check to SOS P.O. Box 9 Monroe Ct.  This helps to defray the cost of police services for the evening which are the single biggest expense for the event.  A donation can also be dropped off on the night of the event.  All attendees are strongly encouraged to bring a non perishable  food item to benefit the Monroe Food Pantry.   For more information please contact tree lighting chair, Kathie Loehr at 203-261-7892.
