Classic Car Show Drives Donations for Monroe Firefighters

Hot rods, Model T's and even antique fire engines made of the rows of classic vehicles at the Monroe Street Rodders Car Club's show on Fireman's Field Sunday. The second annual car show is a fundraiser for the Monroe Volunteer Fire Co.

"We wanted to do a fundraiser for the fire department," said Allen Delfavero, president of the Monroe Street Rodders. "It's a home run for the town."

Donations come from the entrance fees, and Delfavero said about 80 cars were on display on Fireman's Field.

Thirty-six trophies were awarded for excellence, made possible by the sponsors: The Monroe Street Rodders, Champion Awards of Milford, Stevens Ford, William Benedict of Benedict's Home & Garden, Knecht's Garage Inc., Mercier Painting and Jensen Tire & Automotive Inc.

Delfavero was surprised to receive a plaque from his car club with the inscription: "In grateful appreciation for your outstanding contribution and tireless dedication to the Monroe Street Rodders. Thank you for all you have done to create the Saturday Night Cruises at Bill's Drive-In, Plasko's Farm Car Shows and Fireman's Field Car Shows; since 2007."
