RWS Will Pick Up Donations for Monroe Food Pantry

Residents who want to help families in need to put food on their tables can leave non-perishable donations for the Monroe Food Pantry on the curb during the week of Nov. 18 to 22. Drivers for Residential Waste Systems (RWS) will pick it up.

"We are trying to make it as easy for residents as possible to donate," said Jon Bria, manager of RWS. "They do not need to drop it off at the pantry. We will collect the items for them."

"To make the collection easy, we are asking that residents place their non-perishable food donations in bags at the curb on their recycling pick up day," he said. "RWS will be sending separate trucks out to collect the food throughout the week."

As demand grows and Thanksgiving nears, Monroe Food Pantry Dir. Wendy Jolls welcomes the food drive.

"This food drive couldn't have happened at a better time," she said recently. "As of this afternoon we are now at 206 families and growing. We completed our October shopping by giving out almost 10,000 pounds of food. Our shelves have been depleted and the holidays are around the corner."

"Before John contacted me I wasn't sure how we were going to make it through the next few months," she added. "This will certainly help and we are forever grateful to him for putting this food drive together and we hope that it is as large as the one the Post Office does in the spring."
