A Turkey On a Roof, Turtles in the Road, Raccoon in a Dumpster

A Turkey Sighting

Someone reported seeing a turkey roosting on the roof of the Aquarion Water Co. building at 200 Monroe Turnpike at 4:04 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Animal Control Officer Ed Risko said the turkey was gone the following morning, having flown into the tree line. Roosting on a roof is normal behavior for a turkey, he added.

Turtle Crossings

Officers were called for three separate turtle incidents in early November.

On Nov. 1, someone reported a turtle in the roadway creating a hazard on Cutlers Farm Road at 4:07 p.m. But an officer was unable to find the animal.

Nearly an hour later, a passing motorist reported seeing a turtle on Stanley Road. This time an officer moved the turtle and released it without incident.

Then on Nov. 2 a snapping turtle was seen on Cutlers Farm Road at 1:08 p.m. Risko said an officer responding to the call couldn't find it.

Raccoon in a Dumpster

A raccoon was found in a Dumpster outside Sandy Hook Elementary School, 375 Fan Hill Road, at 9:27 a.m. on Nov. 3.

Animal Control Officer Ed Risko said the animal appeared to be healthy and a ladder was provided to help it climb out, adding the raccoon was released on the property without incident.

The trash container lid was secured.
