Beagle Killed in Hit & Run on Elm Street

A beagle that was loose in the roadway died from its injuries after being struck by a tan pickup truck in the 200-block of Elm Street on Sept. 17, according to a woman who reported the incident to police at 8:46 p.m.

Monroe Animal Control Officer Ed Risko said the driver failed to stop and render assistance, adding the witness did not get the truck's registration number. Officers searched the area, but could not find the vehicle.

Prior to the incident, Risko said the dog's owner, a Barton Road resident, had been given a verbal warning for allowing the beagle to roam after picking the animal up at the pound.
