"Shelly' Will Be Adopted

A stray beagle-mix seen wandering in a Barn Hill Road neighborhood last Wednesday has found a new home.

The dog, who Monroe Animal Control officers are calling "Shelly", will be adopted Friday by the woman who found and brought her to the shelter last Thursday. There is a seven-day waiting period for a dog's owner to come forward, so Friday will be the first day the beagle-mix is eligible for adoption, according to Monroe Animal Control Officer Ed Risko.

"The finder of lost property gets first option if they qualify," Risko said of adopting a stray dog.

Last week, the woman who found "Shelly" took her inside and gave her a much-needed bath before bringing the animal to the shelter on Purdy Hill Road the next morning. One officer said Shelly, who is just over a year-old, was "a real sweetie pie", adding the dog got along well with the woman's golden retriever while spending the night at her home.

Her good behavior apparently earned her a permanent stay at her new home.
