Vehicle Strike Kills Opossum, but Her Babies Survive

A wildlife rehabilitator is trying to raise eight baby opossum, who survived in their mother's pouch.

An adult female opossum was struck and killed by a vehicle on Elm Street at around 8:41 a.m. on July 8, but eight of her nine babies survived, according to Monroe Animal Control Officer Ed Risko.

The little animals were turned over to a Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection licensed wildlife rehabilitator for continued care, Risko said.
