Woodchuck Takes Dip in a Pool, Uses Ladder to Climb Out

Monroe Animal Control had two recent reports of animals in swimming pools, including a racing pigeon and a woodchuck.

A Grist Mill Road woman encountered an unusual sight on July 24, finding a wild animal swimming in her pool, then using the ladder to climb out. Monroe Animal Control later identified the animal as a woodchuck and had a brief discussion with the homeowner on exclusion methods.

A Racing Pigeon Cools Off

Maintenance workers at Northbrook Condos fished a racing pigeon out of one of the swimming pools there at around 10:22 a.m. on July 24.

"The bird appeared to have a minor injury," said Animal Control Officer Ed Risko, adding it may have injured a wing flying into a window.

The bird was wearing a leg band, tracing it back to an owner in Easton, who redeemed the animal without incident, according to the report.
