Obituary: Edward F. Barrett

Edward F. Barrett dies at the age of 77.

Edward F. Barrett of Monroe died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, surrounded by his wife and family.

Barrett was born in Buffalo, NY, and attended high school in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from the University of Notre Dame, where his father was a law professor, in 1956 with a B.S. in mechanical engineering. He served two years of active duty in the army, retiring from the army reserves with the rank of captain. Ed then worked at Dupont and Remington Arms. When he retired in 1985 he was Vice President and General Manager of Du Pont's Fabrics and Finishes Department, which included responsibility for Remington Arms in Bridgeport.

He believed in volunteerism and giving back to his community. Since moving to Monroe in 1963, he served on the Town Council, the Republican Town Committee, as President of the Bridgeport YMCA and as a Justice of the Peace. In addition, he was involved in the Jaycees, the Monroe Blue Ribbon Schools Program, and St. Jude Parish.

He is survived by his wife, Katherine (nee Finnegan), his six children: Kathryn, Lisa, Jennifer, Amy, Edward and Sheila, 16 grandchildren and his great grandson. He is also survived by his brother, David, and his sister, Mary. He is predeceased by his first wife, Constance (nee Custer), his brother, Peter, his father, Edward, and his mother, Kathryn.

Visitation will be on Monday, Feb. 27, 2012, from 4 to 8 pm at the , 315 Monroe Turnpike, Monroe.

A funeral will be held at 10 am on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at in Monroe. The burial will be private at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011.

Hi Steve, The comment stream doesn't appear on the homepage in the new design. Some of the sitesRead More that went 2.0 before mine did heard complaints about that. I don't know if it will be changed or not. Right now Patch is gathering all feedback.
