Economic Development in Monroe

Those who think that having a full time Economic Development Coordinator is going to some how magically fix the supposed woes of the town are sadly mistaken. Economics drive development, not the EDC. Don't misunderstand me, The Economic Development Commission is an essential marketing arm of the Town, however developers and investors are not going to develop when times are tough, no matter how hard they attempt to "sell" the town. I heard comparisons to Trumbull  Development and have to chuckle. They have sewers, which from an investors point of view is a more attractive investment for development. A better return on investment. Monroe on the other hand can and will develop, but we have a much narrower market to attract in the first place because we do not have sewers. I still believe that development will happen in Monroe as Sippin, Kimball, Scinto and others have shown us that it will happen, once we are a match for the right marketplace.
