Jerry Stevens for Tax Collector

To The Editor:

Jerry Stevens’ opponents have mounted an attack on his candidacy for Tax Collector saying he is a nice guy, but he doesn’t have the skills or experience for the job.  

This is what you should know about Mr. Stevens’ commitment to the job of tax collector.  He has spent the summer shadowing several tax collectors in Connecticut towns learning a great deal about the profession and the smooth running of a tax collector’s office. Jerry has even attempted to get the official training for the office before Election Day.  However, the Connecticut Tax Collectors Association that conducts the training will not allow him to take courses until he is elected.  They say they do not want to adversely affect their members.

Jerry Stevens will make an excellent Tax Collector.  He has won many awards in his past profession showing his dedication to excellence in anything he chooses to do.  His advanced computer and organizational skills will certainly transfer to the office of Tax Collector.

And finally, Jerry Stevens has the right disposition and personality to treat all of the citizens of Monroe with respect and understanding.  He will listen to their problems and concerns with empathy while still following State Statutes.  Jerry has a plan to have the tax office open during the evening at various times to further accommodate the public.  For these and many reasons, I will be supporting Jerry Stevens on November 5th for Tax Collector. It’s certainly time for change.
