Jerry Stevens is committed to Monroe

A municipal tax collector has many roles to fill. The job requires more than accounting skills-it requires a person who knows how to communicate effectively with the public, a person who knows how to balance the town’s needs against the requirements of taxpayers and small business owners. A tax collector needs to be able to communicate laws to the average citizen so they do not feel powerless in a bureaucracy of arbitrary rules. It takes a person with specialized knowledge, who knows the technical requirements of the job, but also a person of compassion, who enjoys working with people. Great communication skills are necessary because tax collectors must write to and talk with people facing financial distress. These are qualifications that make Jerry Stevens well suited for this position.  

I have seen first-hand Jerry’s commitment to our community, serving the children, teachers, and parents of Monroe. Jerry Stevens is a dedicated and hard-working individual. I am confident he will employ these same strengths as our tax collector. Jerry Stevens will work hard to reestablish the public’s trust in this office.
