There have been many changes in the winter programming for Parks and Recreation programs.  Please visit our website for the most current information on program times, dates and locations.  Also, please continue to call our cancellation line (203-339-6106) for cancellations as well as program updates/changes.

Our Zumba and Zumba Toning classes are being held at the Monroe Senior Center.  The Mon/Wed morning session of Yoga will be at the Stevenson Fire House #2.  The Mon/Thur evening session of Yoga will be held in the Children's Library (craft room).  The Parks and Recreation Department is very thankful to have these locations to continue offering our programs.

For details and to register for the following Parks and Recreation programs, go to monroerec.org.

Parent and Child Aquatics teaches basic water safety for both parents & children (ages 2-4)  and helps young children become comfortable in the water so they are willing and ready to learn to swim. These basic skills include adjusting to the water environment, showing comfort while maintaining a front or back position in the water and demonstrating breath control, including blowing bubbles or voluntarily submerging under water. Session 2 will be held Saturdays starting 2/23 through 3/16 from 11:30-12:00.  Register by 2/20.  Fee is $60 residents/$70 non-residents.

Pre-school Aquatics gives young children (ages 4-5) a positive, developmentally appropriate aquatic learning experience that emphasizes water safety, survival and foundational swimming concepts. Skills are age-appropriate, helping participants achieve success on a regular basis while in a class environment with their peers.  Session 2 will be held Saturdays starting 2/23 through 3/16 from 12:00-12:30.  Register by 2/20.  Fee is $60 residents/$70 non-residents.

Creative Illustrations (drawing and painting class) is for children in grades 1-5.  Children will create art with an emphasis on learning to draw. They will draw detailed pictures, many using characters from their favorite books. Use of different mediums such as oil pastels, acrylic paint and charcoal will be explored. Each piece will be frame worthy!  Session 2 will meet Wednesdays from 4-5:00 starting 2/20 through 3/27.  Fee is $45.

Thank you everyone for your comments. Carl - will try not to be offended by your "anyone withRead More half a brain" comment. I am dismayed to hear Dawn that you have made this effort and been turned down by the town and police department (it's not uncommon for me to see the police speeding up and down Moose Hill Road too!) Glad to hear, though, that I am not alone in seeing a need for people to get a grip on the road. Slow down. Hang up. Comply with stop signs and stop lights. Be courteous.

I have been tail-gated so many times - everywhere in Monroe - I drive a little over the posted speedRead More limit BUT I respect the people walking (most of the time in the wrong direction) and bike riders (they too ride in the wrong direction. HANG UP THE PHONE - DON'T PIGGY BACK thru a stop sign, and learn the right of way rule. AND STOP SIGNS mean S T O P!!! Robin lane people are good for running stop signs. And Pepper Street is 25 mph - NOT 45 or 50!!! Walkers & runners FACE TRAFFIC - Bike riders RIDE WITH TRAFFIC. AND one more thing - don't block the drive ways if there is a stop light - and someone coming in or out - let them and move on. THANKS for letting me get this off my chest!!!!!

Good luck Laura, My husband and I tried to get some on Purdy Hill Road from Rt.111 to Rt.25. theyRead More said they can't do it. I have asked numerous times to have a police officer sit in Farmview or use our driveway, said it's too dangerous, go figure. Tired of drivers around town having no respect for other drivers and people walking on side of road. It gets to the point that I don't even want to leave my house. Get a clue people slow down, stay off phones, it's not hard.
