Summer Fun Days Camp

The 2014 Summer Camp season is right around the corner and Parks & Recreation will once again be offering Summer Fun Days Camp.  This camp is geared for youngsters entering  Pre-K through 9th grade and will run from June 30 – August 8.  The camp day runs from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm with extended day sessions available for each week.  Campers may be dropped off as early as 7:30 am and picked up by 5:30 pm.  Playmates and Kids will be held at Chalk Hill/Sandy Hook School.  The Tweens program will be at Wolfe Park.

Registration is now open  with an early bird rate in effect until April 30th.  For additional program details and to register, please visit www.MonroeRec.org.

There are some changes in the scheduling for 2014.  This year campers in the Playmates and Kids programs will be able to register for sessions in one-week intervals instead of the two-week blocks as in 2013. The Tweens program will maintain the two-week sessions and will now accept children entering 9th grade.

Fun Days for Playmates is for children entering pre-K through 1st grade and are 100% toilet trained.  Playmates will provide fun socialization for children through a variety of learning experiences.  We strive to create a happy, positive experience while building self confidence, imagination and independence.  Your child will learn and explore in and out of our classroom through structured centers, dramatic play, art, music, guided free play, educational field trips and so much more.  Unlike most summer camps, we run a structured program with an educational based curriculum.  Each age group will have their own classroom with experienced teachers and qualified camp counselors.   Each weekly session can include a field trip, swimming at Wolfe Park, a lunch, or on-site entertainment.

Fun Days for Kids is for children entering grades 2 through 5.  Days are jam packed with play, learning and fun.  There is an effective balance of supervised free play with structured, guided activities.  To ensure engagement of children into activities, the program has full-time activity specialists hired to lead age appropriate activities in the area of sports, games and character development/team building, arts, crafts and dramatic expression, and theme based/inquiry activities.  Your child’s counselors will also lead him/her in various activities throughout the day.  Each weekly session can include a field trip, swimming at Wolfe Park, a lunch, or on-site entertainment.

Fun Days for Tweens is for children entering grades 6 through 9.  This is a theme based summer camp program for older children where they can have fun, hang out, play sports and games, and stay safe.  It will be located at Wolfe Park unless otherwise announced.  Drop off and pick up is at the Concert pavilion on the poolside of the park.  In event of inclement weather, the program may take a field trip to the movies or be located at Chalk Hill for the day.  Parents will be informed at pick up and via email.  Each session can include a field trip, swimming at Wolfe Park, a lunch day or outside entertainment.

Session themes for SFD Playmates and Kids follow and are subject to change:  Session 1 “Hats Off to the Chefs”; Session 2 “Animal Planet”; Session 3 “The Amazing Race”; Session 4 “Summer Fun Days Got Talent”; Session 5 “Anything Goes”; Session 6 “Mardi Gras”.  Session themes for SFD Tweens to be announced.
