From the Farm: Are You Ready for the Garden?

Grow your own and save gas money and ensure your family has safe, dependable food.

Long winter and lots of snow. Cold, wet Spring slowly gives way to warmth. Are you ready to garden?

Take it slow as the ground is still cold, which is bad for the peppers and the impatiens. We may still get cold or (BRRRR) frost.

There are lots of garden things to do! Lettuce, onions, cabbage, celery, broccoli and peas are happy to be in the ground. Perennials, tough annuals, shrubs, fruits and trees are happy to go in now. Just go slow on the warm loving veggies and annuals until the ground gets warm. The late spring/early summer sun will bring them up for you fast.

If you can't suppress the urge to plant tomatoes, keep an eye on the weather forecast!

The local garden centers all have a great selection for you these days! In addition to Early Girl or Big Beef try an Heirloom or another "new to you" plant. You will be amazed with the variety of sizes, colors and tastes new vegetables bring to your plate.
