A Deer Collides with a Motorcycle

Monroe Animal Control reported several accidents involving deer and vehicles over the past week.

A deer crossing the roadway on Pine Tree Hill Road in Newtown collided with a motorcycle near the intersection of Winton Farm Road at around 6:22 a.m. on Oct. 1. Police said the driver, who was wearing the proper protective clothing and a helmet, was found laying in the roadway — injured but okay. He was taken to the hospital.

The deer wasn't so lucky. The animal died and its body was found across the street in a front yard on Pine Tree Hill Road.

Police said the accident was near Guinea Road in Monroe and was reported by a resident from that street.

Two More Accidents

A deer running across Turkey Roost Road at 6:18 p.m. on Oct. 2 caused a motorist to swerve to avoid it, police said. Then the vehicle struck a stop sign before coming to rest on top of a chain link fence.

No injuries to the driver or the deer were reported and police said officers could not find the animal. A State Motor Vehicle crash report was filed for the heavy front damage to the car.

Another accident on Oct. 2 didn't end well for the deer.

The deer entered Monroe Turnpike from the vacant lot across from the Century Plaza Shopping Center was struck and killed by a vehicle at around 11:22 p.m. Police said the young male deer weighed about 60 pounds.

Front bumper damage to the vehicle was reported, but police said the driver was not injured.
