A DUI Arrest on Route 34

Police charged a Bridgeport man with DUI after stopping his 2008 Toyota Yaris straddling the double yellow line on Route 34 at 9:46 p.m. on May 25, according to the police report.

Leonard Degirolomo, 36, of Querida Avenue in Bridgeport was charged with operating an unregistered motor vehicle, DUI and failure to drive in the proper lane. Bond was set at $500 for a June 3 court date.

Police said there was the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage when the driver opened his window and that field sobriety tests determined Degirolomo was under the influence, leading to his arrest.

However, at police headquarters breath tests showed Degirolomo's blood alcohol level was under the legal limit, police said.

Police said Degirolomo told officers he was at a wedding at The Waterview and only had a couple of drinks.
