A Lobster Clambake Supports Stepney Firefighters

Supporters of Monroe's Bravest dined on lobsters, clams and steaks off the grill.

What better way to support the men and women of the Stepney Volunteer Fire Co. than by cracking into freshly steamed lobsters, scooping out clams or cutting into a juicy steak right off the grill? The department held its annual lobster clambake at Stepney Firehouse One at 88 Main Street on Saturday.

Shawn Cornut, Stepney's deputy fire chief, said the event is its second largest fundraiser.

First Selectman Steve Vavrek was among the dinnertime crowd that gathered in the dining area.

"It's a great community event," he said. "It's nice to see there are a lot of firemen and people from the community and local businesses here."

Oh come on, they can't have beer & wine on their table? Puh-leese.

What I think is funny, is that they have a picture of "Monroe's Bruce Benedict" (a Republican) and they refer to his wife Pam "across the table," yet she's not important enough to be in the picture!

Yes, how dare our public officials be normal people.

DebraLee likes wine and Vavrek likes beer and I agree that if they want to dink alcohol at a town function then that is up to them. I certainly don’t think that it sends the wrong message to our high school kids to see our state rep. and first selectman drive to a fund raiser and while there enjoy a couple alcoholic drinks. Just as long as they don't drink too much and our kids here in Monroe understand that.

Once again a nice article on the Patch gets derailed by bitter people who just have to try and find a way to tear down people they don't like.

Glad to see they had a good event, too bad people have to go so far out of their way to stir up trouble that they have to attach a picture from another publication under an assumed name of course.

Look at all of these perfect people! Is this a MADD meeting? The first selectman drinks beer! So do millions of other people...including the president. Get over yourselves.

There seems to be a serious problem going on. No one is saying there is anything wrong with a drink or two. However...

No more talk of about how much people drink. Way out of line.

There is nothing in this article about him overindulging himself. There is not report of a DUI arrest. All this is is a personal attack and a cheap shot by doing it anonymously.
