Drivers not wearing their seat belts recently faced added scrutiny, as Monroe police officers issued 135 infractions during the Click-it-or-Ticket campaign. Now drivers attempting to read and send texts on their cell phones will have a greater chance of being pulled over by law enforcement.
An event at Danbury City Hall on Wednesday will kickoff a Texting Ban Enforcement Wave to run from June 20-26, according to Monroe Police Lt. Brian McCauley.
Texting and driving is illegal in Connecticut with fines ranging from $125 to $300. And under proposed House Bill 6033, that range would increase from $150 to $400.
