Am I in Orange? No, Monroe. Wow. DUI on Route 111

A Milford driver was charged with drunken driving on Sunday.

The following information was supplied by the Monroe Police Department. No arrested person is guilty until so judged in a court of law.

Police arrested a 34-year-old Milford man for DUI after stopping his '96 Hyundai heading north on Monroe Turnpike at around 2:13 Sunday morning.

Officers said they saw Lee Burton of West Avenue's car swerve across the center line three times as they drove behind him, before increasing his speed to 65 mph.

Burton had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and could not remember where he was coming from, police said, adding he believed he was coming from Route 34 in Shelton on his way home. Police said Burton asked officers if he was in Orange and upon being told he was in Monroe said, "Wow."

Field sobriety tests at the scene and two breath tests at headquarters determined Burton was under the influence, according to the report.
