A Dachshund in Distress

A Lazy Brook Road family told police their 16-year-old Dachshund usually sleeps for most of the day, so when it wandered off on Tuesday afternoon nobody noticed. The dog walked down a hill from the house, fell into a pond at Whitney Farms Golf Course on Shelton Road, and couldn't pull itself out.

The dog was seen thrashing around trying to keep its head above water and a police officer responding to the call rescued it, according to the report. The call came in at around 3:33 p.m.

A computer search conducted by Monroe Animal Control allowed police to quickly track down the dog's owner, who immediately responded, picking the pet up from the pound for the $15 redeeming fee. The dachshund was validly vaccinated and licensed, but its owner was issued a verbal warning for allowing it to roam.
