Three sheep keep getting loose from Joseph Aversa's property on Old Coach Road.

Then at 7:38 Monday night, a Maryanne Drive resident reported seeing three sheep in her backyard.

Aversa was given a complaint advisory notice and the animals were returned to his property without further incident, according to the report. Aversa said he would check for fence damage for repairs in the morning, police said.

Another Maryanne Drive resident reported seeing stray sheep in her yard at 6:22 p.m. on Wednesday. That incident is still under investigation.

'Playing Rough'

A High Ridge Drive resident was walking a dog on a leash at around 4:54 p.m. Sunday when a Pit Bull ran out from a yard on Boot Shop Lane, where its family was having an Easter gathering outside.

The owner walking the dog complained to Monroe Animal Control, alleging that the Pit Bull attacked the other dog, while the Pit Bull's owner said his pet loves other dogs, was only playing and plays hard, according to police.

Animal Control Officer Edward Risko said neither dog was injured, adding that Pit Bulls do tend to play rough.

Nevertheless, the Pit Bull's owner was issued a $75 fine for creating a public disturbance (first offense) along with written warnings for a roaming dog violation and failure to license.

Deer Survives Accident

A deer struck by a vehicle in the 200-block of Main Street at 9:19 Tuesday night was believed to be severely injured, however police said the deer was okay and fled into a wooded area.

There was also no reportable damage to the vehicle, according to the report.

Sick Animal Sightings

A sick injured skunk was seen in a yard on Topaz Lane, according to a report that came in at 1:22 p.m. on Wednesday. Police were unable to locate the animal and no exposures were reported.

A sick injured raccoon was seen in a yard on Longview Road at 4:24 p.m. Wednesday. Police said it was found and euthanized. No exposures or contact was reported.

A stray cat that is believed to be sick and injured was seen on Edgewood Road at 8:30 Wednesday morning. Police are trying to find it.

A sick injured turkey was seen on the side of the roadway on Pepper Street at 9:05 Wednesday morning. An officer searched the area, but could not find the bird. A similar report in the same area was also made on Thursday.

A Missing Duck

A Turkey Roost Road resident reported her duck stolen Thursday morning, but Animal Control Officer Edward Risko said wildlife predators are also being considered.

Possible culprits include an opossom, a raccoon and a fox. Evidence that would point to a fox, according to Risko, is the fact that a fox tends to carry its prey to its den.

Roaming Dogs

Six roaming dog complaints were made in the past week.

Among them, a Barn Hill Road resident's dog was allegedly bit by a neighbor's dog at around 8:50 Wednesday night. That incident is under investigation.

In another incident, the owner of a dog roaming on Monroe Turnpike Wednesday was issued an infraction for failure to license a dog and a written warning for a roaming dog. She paid a $15 fee to redeem her pet from the pound.

An owner reunited with her lost white Pit Bull Terrier Monday morning was issued a $75 fine for failure to license and a verbal warning for allowing her dog to roam. She paid a $15 fee to redeem her dog from the pound.

A Guinea Road resident was issued a complaint advisory for a roaming dog violation and a $75 infraction for failure to license a dog Sunday after his German Shepherd was seen on Fairmount Drive wearing a collar with an expired 2010 license, according to police.

Failure to License

Eight warnings and two tickets were issued for failure to license a dog over the past week. Monroe Animal Control must enforce this in accordance with state law.
