Bumper Left at an Accident Scene Leads to an Arrest

A George's Lane woman turned herself in on a warrant Aug. 28, charging her with a hit and run that took place on Elm Street early last month.

Denise Madden, 54, was charged with evading responsibility and released on $500 bond.

On Aug. 2, an Elm Street resident awoke to loud cracking sounds at around 12:15 a.m. Later that morning, police said she saw her neighbor's smashed up $200 mailbox and post in her yard with its contents strewn on the lawn, tire marks and a guide pole — that had been dug four feet into the ground — laying on its side, according to the report.

Though the driver fled the scene, police said the front bumper with an attached license plate was left behind.

The plate led to the warrant for Madden's arrest.
