Car Fire Leads to a DUI Arrest on Main Street

A New Fairfield woman was arrested for DUI June 22, after her 2009 Nissan Morano caught fire in the parking lot at 135 Main Street, next to the Shell gas station, and a passerby extinguished it at around 3:23 a.m., according to police.

Aracelis Hernandezduran, 35, of Llion Road was also charged with failure to drive right and released on $500 bond for a July 2 court, police said.

Police said there was damage to the left wheel and both sides of the vehicle, adding both airbags were deployed. According to the report, Hernandezduran told officers she had gotten into accidents somewhere between Bridgeport and Monroe, but didn’t know where.

Lt. Brian McCauley said no accidents had been reported in the area.

An officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Hernandezduran and field sobriety tests led to her arrest, police said, adding she refused to participate in breath tests at police headquarters.
