Code Red: Minimal Power Outages Reported in Monroe

Those who use direct-vent heaters should keep vents clear of snow obstructions. Police urge drivers to stay off the roads.

This is a Code Red Emergency Notification from the Monroe Police Department and Monroe Emergency Management.

Winter Storm Nemo has left us with a large amount of snow. High gusting winds are still blowing and causing snow drift hazards.

Governor Malloy has lifted the statewide traffic ban. However, he still urges residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.

The Monroe Highway Department continues to restore the roads. However, there are many that are still single lane or not even passable. Please, stay off the roads.

According to CL&P, there are minimal outages that have been reported in Monroe at this time. They are currently being addressed. Should you find yourself without power, contact CL&P at (800)286-2000.

If you have a direct vent-type heater in your home, make sure the outside vent is clear of any snow obstruction. Any generator that is being used should be used outside and be properly vented.

A shelter in town has not been opened. The situation will be re-evaluated if needed.

Again, stay off the roads and allow the town Highway Department to continue snow removal operations. Code Red messages will follow as further information is developed.
